Cherry Lattice Pie
Before you slice, agree on how to share
Pastry strips cross above deep red cherry filling. As the baked pie cools, its juices set, ready for a slice with crisp edges and a sweet-tart center. Once everyone is at the table, one small question remains: how shall we divide it?
Cherry pie holds local memories too. In Michigan, Cherry Hut began in 1922 as a little building beside Crystal Lake, selling produce from the family orchard. Cherry pie was among its familiar offerings. A pie to carry home and share can easily become something a whole table looks forward to.
The figure in the traditional Justice card faces forward with eyes clearly visible, scales in one hand and a sword in the other. The scales suggest weighing matters; the sword, making a decision. Sharing well begins with knowing what is on the table and hearing what the people around it need.
“I cut, you choose” gives both people a part in the process. Someone likes the crust, someone the filling; one wants a taste while another is still hungry. Talking makes fairness more specific than estimating equal sizes by eye.
Bring this inspiration to a shared task or decision. Consider what each person contributed, what was agreed, and whose needs have not yet been heard. Put those things on the table before deciding. Sharing feels easier when everyone understands how their portion was chosen.
