Get to know Temperance

Strong black tea meets condensed milk and is poured back and forth between two vessels. The stream makes an arc, landing in a cup where fine bubbles gather. Tea fragrance and milky sweetness blend, while the tea keeps a flavor of its own.

Teh tarik is also part of everyday breakfast in Malaysia. People sit down with flatbread or other foods, starting the day with eating and conversation. This shared breakfast culture, bringing different communities together, was inscribed on UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2024.

In the traditional Temperance card, a winged figure also pours liquid between two cups. One foot touches water, the other rests on land, and a path leads toward light in the distance. Balance here is active, requiring attention and adjustment.

Teh tarik puts that blending before your eyes. Tea and condensed milk have distinct flavors; proportion and technique affect the result. Whether you prefer stronger tea or a softer milk taste becomes clearer after tasting. Repeated pouring lets you watch a partnership take shape.

Some arrangements in life need trying and adjusting too. If your rhythm feels wrong, find the specific point of strain. Are there too many tasks, or too little time to talk? Change a little and see how it feels. As with making tea you would happily drink every day, seek a balance you and those around you can live with.
